Former CIA Deputy Director Michael Morell said that there was no intelligence to suggest ISIS was a joke, adding that the terrorist group represented a real threat to the world.
Trump, the GOP nominee for president, on Thursday blasted the group Twitter, saying it was "so easy" to find footage of the ISIS leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, wearing a bathrobe.
Trump cited the Internet video and a New Hampshire Republican town hall in December as evidence he was right about the video, pointing out that town hall audience laughed when his question was posed.
But Morell said there was no such footage available.
"There are numerous reports out there that he was wearing a robe — and I mean a robe was worn in some cases... that were presented to him. That's very common. It wasn't presented to us," Morell said on CNN's "New Day."
"So, as far ISIS — how is Baghdadi a joke? That's absurd. How is he so absurd that the leader of free world and our closest allies look at him as a joke? So it doesn't make any sense."
Morell continued, saying while some may think Trump exaggerates threats that the media presents or gives undue attention to, those are ultimately subjective assessments.
"I don't know. I have a good sense of what's fair and not," h
