The Doctrine of Divine Love
Loving as Jesus
Loves Us
Introduction
The Doctrine of Love is given to us in The
Word of God, to teach us UNSELFISH LOVE; Godly and Divine Love.
Jesus came to teach us how to Love
Unselfishly, so we could have the Love of God, in us!
If you acquire all earthly knowledge and know
all scientific facts, but never learn to Love unselfishly, then your life has been in
vain.
The Bible is God's Word to Man.
From Genesis to Revelation, it progressively
teaches us lesson after lesson, leading to the final goal of Showing us how to Love, as
Jesus Loved us.
Heaven is for those who Love sincerely-
unselfishly.
John 17:26 - And I have declared unto them Thy Name, and will declare it:
That the Love wherewith Thou hast Loved me may be in them, and I in them
The Commandment
Loving unselfishly, is
the Eternal Commandment of God.
John 13:34 - A new Commandment I give unto you, that ye Love one
another, AS I HAVE LOVED YOU, that ye also Love one another.
John 15:12 - This is My Commandment, that ye Love one another, AS I
HAVE LOVED YOU.
John 15:17 - These things I Command you, that ye Love one another.
Fulfilling the Law
Romans 13:8 - Owe no
man anything, but to Love one another: for he that Loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
Galatians 5:14 - For
all the law is fulfilled in one Word, even in this; Thou shalt Love thy neighbor as thyself.
Romans 13:10 - Love
worketh no ill to his neighbour; therefore Love
is the fulfilling of the law.
James 2:8 - If ye
fulfill the royal law according to the scripture, thou shalt Love thy neighbour as thy self, ye do well.
The Purpose for Truths
Truths teach us how God wants us to Love.
Truth is the Light of Love.
1 Peter 1:22 - Seeing ye have purified your
souls in obeying the Truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned Love of the brethren,
see that ye Love one another with a pure heart fervently.
Ephesians 4:15 - But speaking the Truth in
Love, may grow up into Him in all things, which is the head, even Christ.
1 Thessalonians 3:12 - And the Lord make you
increase and abound in Love one toward another, and toward all men...
Colossians 2:2 - That their hearts might be
comforted, being knit together in Love.
Following Jesus
1 John 4:8 - ...God is Love.
1 John 4:16 - God is Love.
Matthew 1:23 - ...and they shall call His Name
Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, GOD WITH US.
The Bible tells us that God is Love. And the
Bible tells us that Jesus shall be called Emmanuel, meaning "God with us".
Therefore, Jesus is Love made Flesh.
To follow Jesus is to follow Love. Jesus' life
was an example of pure unselfish Love, an example for us to follow. And not only an
example, a commandment for us to follow!
Galatians 5:6 - ..Faith worketh by Love.
Galatians 5:13 - ...by Love serve one another.
John 13:35 - By this shall all men know that
ye are My Disciples, if ye have Love one to another.
Anyone who calls himself a Christian, and
thinks they are saved and going to Heaven, has one criteria to examine themselves against.
Are they LOVING others unselfishly, and sincerely. No other ritual, doctrine, faith or
creed, can fulfill the law and obey the Commandment.
Loving is Following Jesus.
Bearing Fruit
John 15:2 - Every Branch in Me that beareth
not fruit He taketh away: and every Branch that beareth fruit, He purgeth it, that it
bring forth more fruit.
John 15:8 - Herein is My Father Glorified,
that ye bear much fruit, so shall ye be My Disciples.
We have already seen that the Commandment is
to Love as Jesus Loves us, and that by doing so, we have fulfilled the law, and shown
ourselves to be disciples (followers) of our Lord and God.
Therefore, it is easy to see that bearing
fruit is the same thing. Loving properly- sweetly, is bearing sweet fruit. Loving is
spiritual fruit. All the fruits of the spirit are from Love- Because God is Love, and all
things are from Him.
1 John 3:18 - My little children, let us not Love
in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in Truth.
Ephesians 3:17 - That Christ may dwell in your
hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in Love.
Philippians 1:9 - And this I pray, that your
Love may abound yet more and more...
1 Peter 3:8-9 - Finally, be ye all of one mind, having
compassion one of another, Love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous; not
rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing; but contrariwise blessing; Knowing that
ye are there unto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.
The Way
"Love is the road
to Heaven." (Bobby Lee)
Jesus told us the He is the Way. And since He
is Love made flesh, then we can see that Love is the Way. The Teachings of Jesus, teach us
how to Love. Thus, we know how to obey the Commandment to Love as He Loves us.
Romans 12:10 - Be kindly affection one to
another with brotherly Love; in honour preferring one another;
Ephesians 4:2 - With all lowliness and
meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in Love.
Ephesians 5:2 - Walk in Love, as Christ
also hath Loved us...
1 Thessalonians 4:9 - But as touching
Brotherly Love, ye need not that I write unto you; for ye yourselves are taught of God to Love
one another.
Luke 7:47 - ..Her sins, which are many, are
forgiven;
for she Loved Much..
Eternal Life
What would be the purpose of having eternal
life, without loving one another? Would anyone want to live forever where: anger, hatred,
bitterness, or deceit existed?
Loving and being Loved makes us feel warm and
good inside. Love makes us happy. Therefore, Eternal Life in Heaven must be based on
Loving one another.
Hebrews 13:1 - Let Brotherly Love Continue.
1 John 3:14 - We know that we have passed from
death unto life, because we Love the Brethren. He that loveth not his brother
abideth in death.
Loving As Jesus Loves Us
The standard that we have been given is to Love
as Jesus Loves us. Jesus is alive in the present, Loving us today!
Are we loving unselfishly - sincerely from the
Heart?
Are we preferring one another?
Are we lifting up others, or lifting up
ourselves? Are we seeking other's self-esteem and their happiness, or are we promoting
ourselves, seeking others to admire us?
What would the purpose be for going to Church,
or to Sunday School - if not for learning how to Love?
What would the purpose be for going to dinners
and other functions - if not for showing love to others?
What reason could there be for God to create
us and Heaven, if not for Love?
God is Love, the Bible plainly tells us.
Therefore, God, being Love, would want us to Love also.
It is so simple, but many refuse to listen and
obey the Commandment to Love as Jesus Loves us, because they are selfish and see others as
their competitors. They see the world as a place to compete and fight and win false pride
for themselves.
When we learn to Love as Jesus Loves us- then
we are obeying God - then we are doing good - then we are useful in this world - then we
are ready to live forever in Heaven, where Love abides.
Loving as Jesus Loves
us (continued)
Some people don't know what Love is. They
think that it is some abstract feeling you get at times.
Love is your very soul. Since your soul was breathed into you
from the breath of God, and God is Love, then your soul would have to be Love.
Genesis 2:7 - And The Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and
breathed into his nostrils The Breath of Life; and man became a Living Soul.
Now you know why Loving fulfills your destiny and is your purpose and
reason for living. Your soul must Love! Life is Loving. Death is not loving.
Loving as Jesus Loves us means:
- not condemning others Luke 6:37
- showing Mercy to others Luke 6:36
- put Love into action James
- Loving is being born of God 1 John 4:7
- preferring one another Romans 12:10
- forgiving one another Matthew 6:14
- loving your enemies Luke 6:32
- Love overcomes fear 1 John 4:18
Do you give others the best seats at the dinners you attend, or do you seek those
for yourself? Do you give the best food to others? Do you seek your own image to be
admired, or do you seek self-esteem for others.
Loving As Jesus Loves us is a: humble, kind, gentle, unselfish giving Love, that loves
even onto death. Would you be willing to die for the sake of others?
We are Commanded by The Lord Jesus to Love even
those who persecute and harm us!
This is the challenge- for loving good friends and relatives is not difficult.
Loving those who pat us on the back and shower us with affection is not difficult.
However, Jesus has Commanded us to do much more than just Love those who Love us! Jesus
has Commanded us to go beyond what our rational mind tells us to do- We are Commanded to
Love those who harm us, hate us, persecute us, and kill us. We are to Love as He Loved
us!
We are Commanded to Forgive them, pray for them, do good to them, and bless them.
My Brethren Let us obey God!
Matthew 5:44 - ... Love your enemies, bless them that
curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you,
and persecute you.
Matthew 5:45 - That ye may be the children of your Father
which is in Heaven: for He maketh His Sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth
rain on the just and on the unjust.
Matthew 5:46 - For if ye Love them which Love you, what
reward have ye? Do not even the publicans the same?
Matthew 5:47 - And if ye salute your brethren only, what
do ye more than others? Do not even the publicans so?
Matthew 5:48 - Be ye therefore perfect, even as your
Father which is in Heaven is Perfect.
Conclusion
Romans 13:9 - For this, thou shalt not commit adultery, thou shalt not kill, thou shalt
not steal, thou shalt not bear false witness, thou shalt not covet; and if there be any
other Commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt Love thy neighbour as thy self.
1 John 3 :11- For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should Love one another.
1 John 3:23 - And this is His Commandment, that we should believe on the Name of His
Son Jesus Christ, and Love one Another, as He gave us Commandment.
1 John 4:8 - He that Loveth not knoweth not God; for God is Love.
In the world it is possible to deceive men and have them believe that you are a fine
upstanding, Church going person, and even have them believe that you love others, are
saved and going to heaven.
But what man believes about you does not matter at all, it is what God KNOWS about you,
for God knows your heart and your thoughts. You cannot deceive God. He knows if you
Love others in your heart, or not.
God is not mocked - what you sow, you shall also reap. If you have deceived men and
appeared loving to the world, yet inside full of anger and hate, God knows it.
On the other hand, if you love sincerely, unselfishly, by giving, sharing, and caring,
and being humble kind and good, praying for others, even your enemies. Loving as Jesus
Commanded us to Love, then you can be assured by the Word of God, that you will live
forever in the Heaven of Loving Spirits. Amen
1 John 4:12 - No man hath seen God at any time. If we Love one another,
God dwelleth in us, and His Love is perfected in us.
